The Art of Jewellery

I love making jewellery because it has no limitations, I can make it in any material and to any scale (as long as it is possible to wear it on the body), it can be sculptural and a work of art.  I love working with silver, it has such a beautiful colour and is soft enough to manipulate but strong enough to hold its shape.  I can sculpt with it and add colour with gemstones and enamel, and it looks beautiful against the skin.

Victoria Hopkins, Jewellery Designer

My journey to become a jeweller has been a long and winding one.  Art was always my passion at school and I followed this through into a craft degree before I went off in a more academic direction landing in the different world of project management.  However I have always been a maker in some form or another and, 25 years later I returned to art college to study Jewellery Design and hone my skills as a jewellery maker.

Three different pictures next to each other. The first is a spiky red flower in grass, the second is a rusting drainpipe on a dirty white brick wall the the third image is a close up of organ pipes.

The Inspiration

My jewellery is inspired by the patterns I see in the world around me from the bright shapes visible under a microscope to this beautiful world seen from high above.  Or I might find inspiration in the patterns of flaking paint on an old wall or the steel interior of a freight train.  Nothing is too big or too small but it is always the patterns that draw me in.

The Workshop

I design and hand craft every piece of jewellery in my workshop surrounded by the beautiful Herefordshire hills and fields, watching the tractors in the field next door out of my window, or the bees heading back to their hive with fresh nectar, or watching the rain making patterns on the windows.  My workshop is my haven where I am surrounded by everything I need to both design and make my pieces of jewellery.

My Jewellery

My jewellery combines traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary approach, creating sculptural and organic pieces designed to be seen.  I make bold jewellery for women who want to make a bold impression and celebrate their individuality.  I want my jewellery to add glamour and bring joy to women who want to feel confident and empowered.

Fusing Tradition with Modern Techniques

All my jewellery is carefully designed and hand crafted either in my workshop or locally, sharing a workshop space with another jeweller or maker sharing inspiration or just a coffee.  Working alongside other creative people helps to keep the creative spark alive.  Every piece is carefully designed and constructed using traditional silversmithing processes helped along with some 21st century equipment to produce beautifully crafted and long lasting jewellery.
